It’s finally here. After years of anticipation, the film adaptation of Ruta Sepetys’ critically acclaimed historical novel Between Shades of Gray (2011) is opening January 11th. The film premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival last September under the title Ashes in the Snow, and this weekend marks its wide release. The story centers around 15-year-old Lina, who is deported from her home in Lithuania to a Siberian labor camp during World War II. The novel is deeply affecting and eye-opening for teens and adults alike, and as such, has been a staff favorite here since its publication. We are crossing our fingers that the film proves to be equally deserving of a wide audience.
