About the Friends

The Patten Free Library has lots of friends, but the Friends organization has a special role; bringing the public into a closer relationship with the library and strengthening the library’s operating budget. Friends members volunteer at the library itself, at the Bookshop, at book sales, and at library events.  The Friends provide significant financial support to PFL through book sale events, membership, and proceeds from the library bookstore. All proceeds support library operations and activities.

Ours is an important role and we invite you to join us. If you are interested in volunteering email friendsofpfl@gmail.com

View the Library’s annual reports to see the Friend’s contributions in years past.

The purpose of the Friends is to:

  • Promote the resources and services of the Library
  • Sponsor programs of general interest
  • Generate financial support for the Library

The Friends’ activities include:

  • Managing and staffing the library bookstore
  • Organizing and running the Annual Heritage Days Book Sale
  • Planning additional fund raising efforts, programs, and social events
  • Supporting Library programs, including the Annual Writing Contest, Starry Night, and the Spelling Bee
