Who is eligible for a library card?
What do I need to get a library card?
Adults may apply for a library card at the Lending Services desk. Show photo ID with your name and current address (or a photo ID and a document showing your name and current address). Fill out an application form, and you can use your card immediately! For more information, call (207) 443-5141 x11.
Teens (6th grade through age 18) may get their own library cards using documents such as school ID or school schedule to prove identification.
Children (through 5th grade) may apply for a library card in the Children’s Room and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to get a card. The parent/guardian must show either their own PFL library card or the same identification as an adult. Parents are responsible for all materials borrowed on a child’s card.
A Patten Free Library card is like a personal credit card. Every PFL patron must have his/her own library card; Patten Free Library does not offer a family card or temporary cards. Library cards must be presented when checking out materials. Each individual is responsible for all items checked out on his/her account. No one is allowed access to another person’s account information without the consent of the library card holder.
Report a lost card to the library as soon as possible. You can replace a lost, stolen, or damaged card at the Lending Services Desk by showing your photo ID. The replacement fee is $1.00. You are responsible for all materials borrowed with your card until you report it lost or stolen.
All library card applicants agree to obey the rules and policies of the library, to return items in a timely manner, to promptly pay all charges against the account for overdue fines, and damage to or loss of library items. They also agree to notify the library immediately in the event that a library card is lost or stolen or if an address, phone number, or email address changes.
Patten Free Library will not issue a library card if the applicant owes more than $10.00 in fines or any billed items to another Maine library. All outstanding fines and fees must be resolved before a PFL card can be issued.
To sign up for a library card online, you must be 18 years or older.
