Town History Series 2020: Georgetown. “Captain Stin Davis . . . in his own words”

“Glory” (1989)

Denzel Washington won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in this story about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the Union Army’s second African-American regiment in the Civil War. Matthew Broderick stars as Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, the regiment’s commanding officer, with Washington, Cary Elwes, and Morgan Freeman as fictional members of the 54th. This is the third of five once-a-week sessions for iPad users aged 55 and up.  We’ll start by learning how to take photos and shoot video. We’ll also learn how to edit, enhance, store, and organize images, and how to share them across your devices and with other people. Town History Series 2020: Bath. Chris Timm, “Bath’s Ship-Owning Princes”

In the last talk of the Town History Series, Chris Timm will consider the ship-owning princes of Bath.  Bath’s maritime families presented a number of public images. Some embraced a salty austerity, while others promoted their role as global connoisseurs of wealth and taste.
