Maine’s First Ship is re-constructing the Virginia of Sagadahoc, the first ocean-going vessel to be built in North America. The original ship’s construction in 1608 by English colonists at the mouth of the Kennebec River began Maine’s long tradition of shipbuilding and the maritime trades. Jim Parmentier will describe the history of the Popham Colony and document the reconstruction effort of that ship that has been underway in Bath now for almost 20 years. Presented on Zoom.
