Georgetown resident Theo Holtwijk will shed a light on the creation of Reid State Park in an
illustrated talk. Reid State Park, Maine’s first beach park, was created in 1946 through large land donations by Walter Reid. Yet, it is a triumph the park even happened. The Reid State Park story is a fascinating one of recreation, conservation, land development, philanthropy, timing, and the importance of family and “home.”

The Town History Series is a long-standing Patten Free Library tradition that brings together Patten Free Library’s member communities to learn about and celebrate each town’s local history. The town of Arrowsic, Bath Historical Society, Georgetown Historical Society, West Bath Historical Society, and Woolwich Historical Society each select a speaker to present on an aspect of their local history. This year’s Town History Series is dedicated to Peter Goodwin, longtime History Room manager and Town History Series creator.
