I’m so excited to review this book that will undoubtedly be one of my top 5 favorite books of the year. When we start our story, Violet Larkin is being sent to live with her uncle in his dilapidated Victorian home in the seaside town of Lyric, Maine. The town is named after a sunken ship that capsized right off the coast where Violet’s great-great-great grandmother swam to shore. Being forced to reckon with her family’s past and town history leads her to amateur history buff Liv Stone. Liv becomes a fellow shipwreck hunter along with Orion, Violet’s handsome new coworker at the Lyric Aquarium.
This book is such an excellent coming-of-age story set in a fictional Maine town. You can smell the briny saltwater in the pages and Drake does a fantastic job of describing young LGBTQ+ love without too much angst and drama. I can’t wait to see what else Julia Drake publishes in the future!
