Book Review: Anya’s Ghost

“I’m enough like you to know how you feel. Wanting how others look, what they have, who they have! Everyone’s life seems so much easier …”

This earnest quote from Anya does a great job of summing up the tone of this graphic novel by Vera Brosgol. Anya’s Ghost is a must read for teens and young adults learning about what it takes to fit in and the costs of striving for acceptance. This spooky book also gives us all a ghostly reminder of what we sometimes forget as we scroll through social media: the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We never truly know what is going on with someone else even if they seem to have everything we yearn for. I recommend this book for its insight, which has transcended its nearly ten-year-old publication date, and for its great art. Fall head first into this cool graphic novel with Anya and tell us what you think!
