The Bath Historical Society was incorporated in 1989 by a small group of Bath citizens. The initial membership was 36 people. The goals of the Society include collection, preservation, and sharing of local history and genealogy. These goals are attained by providing major financial and volunteer support for the History Room, partnering with Bath-area schools, offering research services, and sponsoring publications such as The Sesquicentennial of Bath, Maine, 1847-1997. Benefits of membership include a newsletter, the "Times of Bath" research publication, and the Society's many historical programs.
Over a 150 individuals, families and businesses are curently members of the Historical Society. The Society, governed by an annually elected Board of Trustees, welcomes new members interested in volunteering in the History Room or serving on one of the standing committees (Membership, Programs, Archives, Publications).
