The Bath Historical Society was incorporated in 1989 by a small group of Bath citizens. The initial membership was 36 people. The goal of the Society is the collection and preservation of local history, including genealogy, and the sharing of these resources. This goal is attained by providing major financial and volunteer support forthe History Room, three school programs presented annually to Bath students, research services provided by Society members, and special projects such as the commemorative publication of historical photographs and text entitled, "The Sesquicentennial of Bath, Maine, 1847-1997" to celebrate Bath's 150th anniversary of incorporation as a city. Most of the funds derived from fund raisers, research services, and membership duesare donated to Patten Free Library for the continued operation of the Sagadahoc History and Genealogy Room.
