The Chickadee Award Welcome to The Chickadee Award, a new Maine children's choice book project. This program is for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. The books were published in 2003. The Chickadee Award is named after Maine's state bird. It is intended to complement the Maine Student Book Award program that involves students in grades four through eight. Our goal is for students to develop an appreciation of outstanding writing and illustrations in current children's picture books by participating in this program. We hope they will become discriminating readers by voting for their favorite book. A curriculum guide that includes activities, complimentary books, author & illustrator biographical sketches is available.
The Katahdin Award is a lifetime achievement award given by the Youth Services Section of the Maine State Library to recognize an outstanding body of work of children's literature of Maine by one author or illustrator. |
